How To Use The Defocus Detection Option (IP4M-1072EW-AI)

The defocus detection feature on a Amcrest camera is a video content analytics (VCA) function designed to identify situations where the camera's image becomes blurry or out of focus. This can be caused by various factors, including:

Intentional tampering: Someone deliberately trying to obscure the camera's view by spraying paint, applying tape, or placing an object in front of the lens.
Accidental obstruction: Objects like cobwebs, leaves, or dust accumulating on the lens can cause blurring.
Sudden environmental changes: Rapid shifts in lighting conditions or extreme weather events might briefly affect focus.

When defocus detection is enabled, the camera continuously analyzes the image sharpness. If the level of blur crosses a predefined threshold for a certain duration, the camera recognizes it as a defocus event and can be programmed to take various actions, such as:

Triggering an alarm: Sending an alert notification through email, mobile app, or activating an audio/visual alarm.
Starting recording: Initiating video recording to capture the event for later review.
Taking a snapshot: Capturing a still image at the time of defocus detection.
Activating a relay output: Signaling external devices like lights or sirens to turn on.

By utilizing defocus detection, Amcrest cameras can help:

Enhance security: Detect potential attempts to tamper with the camera and maintain clear video evidence.
Improve monitoring efficiency: Receive alerts when the camera needs refocusing due to environmental factors, allowing for prompt corrective action.
Ensure recording quality: Maintain high-quality video recordings by identifying and addressing focus issues.
