Amcrest Link Mobile App Permissions Explained

While setting up a new camera in your Amcrest Link app you may encounter a series of permission prompts. These are standard security measures designed to give you control over what apps on your mobile device can access and protect your privacy. The Amcrest Link app will require certain permissions to be allowed that will let you add to the app as well as other functions. For more information on the permission requests and prompts provided please refer to the information provided below.

Allow Amcrest Link to send you notifications?

This prompt allows the app to send push notifications to your mobile device. Tap allow to allow this permission. If you do not allow this permission, push notifications will not be permitted.

Allow Amcrest Link to access this device's location?

This prompt is asking for access to your device's location. Some security camera apps, such as the Amcrest Link app, use location data during initial set up to help with automatically detecting the correct time zone or finding nearby Wi-Fi networks.

It is recommended to use the precise location option while using the app, however, below is a breakdown of each option provided in this menu.

Precise: This option would allow the app to access your exact location using GPS and other location services. This gives the app the most accurate location data.
Approximate: This option would allow the app to access a general, less precise location. It might use Wi-Fi or cellular network information to determine your location within a broader area.
While using the app: This means the app will only have access to your location when you are actively using the Amcrest Link app.
Only this time: This grants the app temporary access to your location for the current session. The next time you open the app, it will ask for permission again.
Don't allow: This denies the app any access to your location.

Permissions

This is a in-app friendly reminder prompt that reminds you that if the requested permissions are not granted then the app may not function properly.

Turn on Bluetooth so that Amcrest Link app can connect your camera and complete.

This prompt is a straightforward request from the Amcrest Link app to make sure to enable Bluetooth on your Android device. Tap the Go to Settings option to verify Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device.

Allow Amcrest Link to find, connect to, and determine the relative position of nearby devices?

This prompt is asking for permission for the Amcrest Link app to use your device's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi scanning capabilities to discover, connect to, and determine the relative position of nearby devices. This permission must be allowed to allow the app to locate and add the device into the app.

Allow Amcrest Link to access photos and videos on this device?

This prompt is asking for permission for the Amcrest Link app to access the photos and videos stored on your device.

The app is requesting this permission for the following reasons:

Saving Recordings: If you want to save video recordings or snapshots from your Amcrest camera to your phone's gallery, the app needs this permission.
Uploading Media: The app might allow you to upload photos or videos from your phone to the camera or to cloud storage.
Sharing Media: If you want to share recordings or snapshots from the app directly to other apps on your phone, it needs to access your media library.
Profile Picture/Setup: The app might allow you to set a profile picture or use existing images during setup.

Allow limited access: This typically means the app can only access specific photos and videos that you explicitly choose to share. This is generally the most privacy-conscious option.
Allow all: This grants the app full access to all photos and videos on your device.
Don't allow: This denies the app any access to your photos and videos.
