What Is The Difference Between An Amcrest EI and XI NVR?

The core difference between Amcrest EI (enhanced intelligence) and Amcrest XI (eXtended Intelligence) NVRs boils down to how they handle AI processing. EI models typically handle AI processing by the camera itself, whereas, XI models provide a more powerful AI processor to perform AI tasks directly on video streams. XI models, such as the NV6864-XI, provide more storage capacity, as well as the ability to connect more cameras than an EI model NVR.

EI models: These NVRs offer basic AI functionalities, primarily focusing on accurate human and vehicle detection to reduce false alarms. They rely more on "AI by Camera," meaning the AI processing is largely done by a supported AI camera.

XI Models: These are more advanced, with greater AI processing power built into the NVR. They can perform more complex AI functions like video metadata analysis, facial recognition, and other more complex AI features. They also support more channels using "AI by Device," meaning the NVR can perform AI functions even with cameras that don't have built-in AI functionality.

Please refer to the technical specification sheets of your specific model NVR for more information.
