How To Setup Motion Detection Locally (NVR)
Motion detection is typically set by default while initially setting up your NVR, however, if motion detection is disabled configuring motion detection is a very simple process and can be done either locally or via the web user interface using a computer. For more information on how to set up motion detection using the web UI click here.
Setting up Motion Detection Locally
Make sure you have direct access to your NVR and ensure it has a monitor hooked to it. A USB mouse is needed as well to navigate the menus.
Step 1: Log into your NVR and access the main menu and click the Alarm function tile.
Step 2: In the Alarm menu, click on the Video Detection option and select which channel you would like to enable from the Channel menu, and click on the Enable toggle switch. Click Save.
Step 3: Region settings can be set for your device as well which can help to reduce the amount of false motion detection alerts that are caught by your camera by allowing you to set specific motion zones, adjusting the motion sensitivity and threshold for your device.
Select a motion zone (color) from the screen and use your mouse to highlight specific regions. Motion sensitivity and threshold can also be adjusted which can increase the efficiency of your motion detection. For more information on sensitivity and threshold settings, click here.
Step 4: If you want to set up a motion detection schedule for your device click on the Setting button located in the Period field. A motion detection schedule will set your camera to detect motion only at specified days and times. By default, motion detection will be set up to record motion 24/7, 7 days a week, however, the schedule can be modified by clicking the settings (gear wheel) icon.
The device can modify up to 6 periods. The periods can be copied to multiple days if necessary. Use your mouse to enter a start and end time for the motion detection schedule. In this example, we are using 6am (0600) - 5pm (1700), the schedules will be entered using military time. To copy the schedule to all days of the week, click the All button. Click Save.
The motion schedule will be displayed. To link the schedules to multiple days, click on the All option. Click Save.
A motion detection schedule has now been set on your device. For more information about additional motion detection options available on your system, please refer to the information below.
Additional Motion Detection Options
Anti-Dither: This field allows the user to set the anti-dither time. The values in this field can range from 5 to 600 seconds. This time value controls how long the alarm signal lasts. Based on motion detection, a buzzer can go off, a tour can begin, PTZ can be activated, a snapshot can be taken, or a channel can begin recording.
Show Message: This checkbox allows the user to enable the system to show an on-screen message when a motion detection alarm is triggered.
Alarm Upload: This checkbox allows the user to enable the system to upload alarm information when a motion detection alarm is triggered.
Send Email: This checkbox allows the user to enable the system to send an email when a motion detection alarm is triggered. For more information on how to set up email alerts click here.
Record Channel: This checkbox allows you to enable the system to record video for that channel when a motion detection alarm is triggered. Delay is also associated with this tab, it is This field specifies in seconds how long the delay between alarm activation and recording should be.
PTZ Activation: This allows the user to active PTZ functionality to applicable PTZ devices.
Delay: This allows the user to set a delay between motion event activation.
Tour: This Allows the user to enable the camera to activate a PTZ tour when a motion detection alarm is triggered.
Picture Storage: When an alarm occurs, the NVR triggers a snapshot for the selected channel.
Buzzer: This allows the user to trigger a buzzer once a motion event is detected.
Log: Allows the user to log all motion detected events that are triggered in the device.
Snapshot: This allows the user to enable the camera to take a snapshot when a motion detection alarm is triggered.
Voice Prompts: This allows the user to customize voice prompts for motion detected events.
To revert to default settings, click the Default button near the bottom left-hand corner. To copy settings to another channel, click Copy near the bottom left-hand corner. To refresh the interface, click Refresh. To confirm settings, click the Apply button. To exit the interface, click the Back button.
