Video Metadata is used to monitor and provide reports of the vehicles, non-motor vehicles, or people detected by the NVR within a specific time frame. This feature can be controlled using the AI by Camera type (if supported by an AI camera) or AI by Device.
Video metadata reports can only be viewed if using the AI by Camera type, however, the NVR has built-in video metadata retention and playback options using the video metadata smart search options. In this example, we will be using AI by camera, for more information on how to use video metadata please refer to the information provided below.
Step 1: Log into the NVR directly or using the NVR's web user interface (web UI) using a web browser and select AI from the main menu. For more information on how to access the web UI for your device, click here.
Note: If a smart plan for people counting is not available in the smart plan menu, it cannot be activated, this may be due to limitations on your AI camera, not the NVR. The people counting features that are available in the camera will be the same features provided in the NVR.
Step 2: In the Parameters section, access the Smart Plan menu. Click on the Video Metadata option. Click on Apply.
Step 3: Click on the Video Metadata option in the parameters menu, then click the " + " icon to add the metadata attributes (human detection, non-motor vehicle detection, motor vehicle detection". Click Apply.
Step 4: If using AI by Camera, please make sure to log into your camera's web UI, to access the camera's web UI from the NVR, navigate to the Camera menu and select the web page icon for the device.
Access the AI menu, and open the video metadata settings. Ensure the "People Flow Statistics" and "Traffic Flow Statistics" options are enabled for each metadata attribute. Click Apply.
Click on the OSD Info option to set a video metadata overlay. This overlay will display a number of metadata attributes captured by the device. Click Apply.
Step 5: On the NVR, for a real time view of objects captured by the device, the AI live option can be selected in the live view menu. Display settings and filters can also be applied to AI live features by selecting the gear wheel icon and adjusting any face, human, or vehicle attribute settings. Please note, this will only apply to how you view AI live events and will not effect the overall reporting of video metadata events.
Viewing Video Metadata Events
To view events captured by the selected traits, open the Smart Search menu. To view all human events/traits detected, select Human Detection, enter the start and end times of the events as well as any other metadata traits using the provided dropdown menus if needed, click Search. The same method can be applied to view non-motor vehicles, and motor vehicle events. Please note, if using ANPR, license plate data can be viewed in the “Motor Vehicle Detection” smart search menu.
Viewing Video Metadata Reports
Video metadata reports represent graphically the number of motor vehicles, non-motor vehicles, and people detected by a camera. This can be a daily, monthly, or yearly reporting if needed. A video metadata report can only be viewed if using AI by Camera, it does not support AI by device.
To view a video metadata report, select a channel and choose a reporting type. Enter the start and end times of the reporting and select a specific “direction” in which the event occurred if needed, this can be from A to B, B to A, or A <-> B. The “None” option will display all directions, click Search.
