How to Setup a Secure HTTPS/SSL Connection Using An Amcrest Device

HTTPS stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure. It is a protocol for securing the communication between two systems such as a web browser and your Amcrest IP camera. For more information on how to set up HTTPS using the Amcrest web user interface (web UI) please refer to the information provided below. 

Step 1: Open a web browser and log in to the web user interface (web UI) for your camera. For more information on how to access the web UI for your camera click here.

Step 2: Navigate to Setup>>Network>>HTTPS. Please note, If you intend to use your own signed HTTPS certificate, use the options provided in the Install Signed Certificate section to proceed, however, to create a root cert, click Create

Step 3: Enter the requested information into the fields such as the region (country), IP or Domain name, province (state), location (city), organization/organization unit, and email then click Create

Step 4: This will automatically populate this information into the Request Created field. Click Install.

Step 5: Once installed, click the Download option to download the root cert to your computer. Click Enable HTTPS then click Save

Allow the device to restart and for the configuration to take effect. 

Please note, if attempting to access the IP address from this point a message will appear indicating that the site is not secure. This is because the root cert is not properly imported. 

Step 6: Locate the root cert and select Install Certificate

Step 7: Use the Certificate Import Wizard to install the cert. Make sure the Store Location is set to Current User. Click Next

Step 8: Click Place all certificates in the following store, select Browse, and select Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Click Next.

Step 10: Click Yes to import the certificate.

Step 11: Open a web browser and enter https:// and the IP address of your device. The browser will open the page in https:// indicating a successful HTTPS/SSL secure connection.
