How To Resolve FTP Deleting Issues

If you are experiencing issues with FTP, such as subfolders being deleting after a manual reboot, an issue may be occurring between your camera and the FTP software you are currently using. As a solution, it is recommended to use a more stable FTP solution such as Xlight FTP server software.

To download the Xlight FTP server, visit: http://www.xlightftpd.com/

On the main site, click on the Download tab and download Xlight to your computer. After downloading the software, you will need to create a new virtual FTP server. To begin installing a new FTP virtual server, click on the  icon located in the upper left corner.

To create a new FTP virtual server, select an IP address for your FTP server from the dropdown list. Make sure to retain Port 21 as the default port for your server. Press OK to continue.

The virtual FTP server will then be created in Xlight. To begin running the FTP service, click on the  button and verify that the server is Running inside the Status feild.

Now that the FTP server is running we need to assign it to a directory where retained FTP files will be transferred. To assign a directory, click on the edit  button.

This will take you to a server settings dialog box where a Public Path can be created for your FTP server. To create a public path, click on the Public Path field located on the left side of the screen and then click on the  icon to create the virtual path. Enter the virtual path or choose a path by clicking the Browse button. Press OK once a path has been selected.

After a path has been created, you will need to create a new user for your FTP server. This information will be the user credentials used in the camera's FTP interface. To create a new user, click on the  image located in the banner next to the edit button.

In the User List menu, click on the  icon to add a new user. In this field, create a new username and password for the user. For a more efficient experience, it is recommended to not check the Create anonymous user or Login without a password when creating a new user.

Next, click on the Browse button to select a Home Directory for the created user.

Once the home directory has been properly assigned, press the permissions  icon to assign permissions for the created user.

The FTP server has now been created in Xlight and can be input into the FTP settings on your camera via the web UI on a computer. For more information on how to access the web UI for your device, click here.

Inside the web UI, go to Setup>>Storage>>Destination and in the Path tab, set the Event Type to FTP. Press Save to continue.
